| Extra Stuff About Me: |
| |
I first saw the BERLIN Wall as a 9-year-old in 1962. My father had an earlier overseas assignment at Ramstein AFB and we drove to BERLIN on the autobahn. The Wall was fairly new and mostly cinder blocks.

Summer 2007
My BERLIN study-abroad class was conducted May 11-24. We took the course up a big notch this year by establishing a workshop environment with digital cameras, software, recorders and laptops. Everyone recorded sound for each project, and then the audio was mixed with 8-12 still images to create one-minute "Soundslides" shows. From a BERLIN hotel lobby, I uploaded everything as it was produced to our JOU website.
The topics ranged from bar owners to chimney sweeps to real estate developers -- with each mini-story touching on the uniqueness of BERLIN. The 15 particpating students ranged from pre-journalism freshmen to telecom seniors.

John took fifteen of his journalism students to BERLIN the summer of 2005 for a two-week study-abroad. Take a look at the net results of a group documented "mood of the city" and "spirit of its formerly divided people" at:
