Comments: This web site was a great surprise!!! Even though i was only at BAHS for 7th Grade, I have sooo many fond memories of BERLIN. I was there from 79-82, and experienced everything from my first kiss, to my first experience as a cheerleader, to my first time traveling without my family on the Duty Train. (Some of those trips to Tha' Zone were off the chain!!!) Shout outs to Mary Yancey, Tonya Bennett, Lamonica, Michelle and FELIX MANUEL, KIP HOLLAND, MARCUS FISHER. KEVIN EVANS and TONY PARHAM who were major crushes for me at such a tender age!

Comments: I never attended BAHS, but rather am an alumna of Madrid High School (Spain), Class of '64. What we share in common, many of us (besides being brats) is one wonderful teacher - Philip B. Sullivan II.
I was a guest of his family and we were privileged to attend a few functions during your reunion in BERLIN this past July.
There was a brief memorial held at his graveside - only an hour or so after the batteries in my camera failed. I would be extremely grateful to get photos from any one of you who attended that and have pictures. Oh, and imagine my surprise to see myself in the panoramic photo ... not my intent, as I was scooting over to the theater to see what was there!

Comments: Thanks for this archive. I was a Department of the Army Civilian (DAC) brat at Orleans, France from Nov 59 to Mar 65. Attended and graduated from Orleans American H S (OHS) in Jun 62. (And also attended the American College in Paris Sep 62-Jun 63 as a member of its inaugural class.) Those of us at Orleans have had eight reunions beginning with our 'grand reunion' (comprising all OHS classes from 1955 to 1967) in 1985 at Washington DC, and can appreciate all of the hard research that goes with any alumni association.

Comments: Just arrived a few months ago to my new base in Clovis, NM. I'm currently the Maintenance Opeartions Officer for the Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico. Should be pinning on Major in February. I've been in the Air Force for almost 10 years now. Clovis is a pretty small town but I stay pretty busy with work. Comments: Man, what a blast to review this site and think about the glory days! I was especially glad to find the yearbooks online and see the reunion rsvps - I will absolutely make it the the next one.
I would really like to hear from everybody Class of 88. I'm still in touch with Don and Tina (Poteet) Geimer in Atlanta although much too infrequently. When we do talk though, its like we are still at Cole's Gym or drinking a Weitzenbier or Apfelcorn at Srps house. Can't help also remember those high school romances (where ya'at Jenny Otley!? Kelly Tranum!?), crushes (come on Marnie Nelson - you had to know...) and if-only-I-had-nerves (Amy Stiver - whew - still the best senior year picture! and my goofy picture on the same row pretty much sums it up).
TOP 10 memories (I reserve the right to change this after hearing from you):
1. Mr. Schmoll's class - sometimes wild and irreverent, the way English should be taught.
2. Coach Pepoy and (who was the enlisted black coach?) making us heave on the football field. Also blocking an extra point in the homecoming game! Go BEARS!
3. Riding the duty train, and accidentally pulling the emergency brake.
4. Hanging out with Donald and Brian: fball, rqball, Cole's Gym, also on the UBAHN, Truman BK, riding the green bus. Extended crew: Eric Roche, Lance Srp, Shawn Steele, Marshall Todd and others.
5. How did Darin Hunt, Tim Brandt, Scott Wagner make being totally off the deep end look so cool? Probably cause Darin had Erika DeVries with him ;-)
6. Marshall Todd - that laugh, also the most likeable high school jock of all time.
7. My BIG TEX hat/boot/belt getup. Ditched that as soon as I got back to TX cause every other tom dick and harry did it.
8. Senior Hall - smooching with Jenny, keeping stuff in our locker that we shouldn't have...
9. Football fever. Painting faces for homecoming rally (see last page of yearbook - Donald, we were too cool).
10. Donner Kabap? Bock/Brat in roll with mustard. Apfel, Vodka, weitzen.
I miss you all and I still enjoy telling people where I went to high school. BAHS!

Going through the yearbooks of 78,79,and 80 really brought back several memories. I was a student at BAHS for grades 7-9 and was so impressed with DoDDS, that I am now a teacher in the DoDDs system. I will be visiting this site frequently and if I ever find myself back in Germany I will be making the trek back to BERLIN.

Comments: I attended BAHS from '85-'86 until my family moved back to the States. What great friends I made there, many of whom didn't end up graduating from BAHS (according to the 1989 yearbook), but must have made a similar move to the one I made after I left. I remember riding the duty train to our soccer games in West Germany and having several humorous experiences on these trips. Kidney boy, are you still alive? The trip to Russia and the blackmarket trading (and trying to sneak the loot back through security). M&M's dropping all over the steps of Lenin's tomb! We didn't drink the water, but most of us came back with some kind of worm. Fun times at Grunewoche (was that what it was called?) and the school bus being escorted to and from school during the Libia confrontation. It seems like we had several bomb threats during that time. What a great time to be in BERLIN. So many awesome, life-changing experiences! Comments: This is a wonderful site. I have, for part of an afternoon enjoyed reading and remembering (rescheduled some patients so I could enjoy the site...really!!). Comments: Wow! this page (like others have said) brings back memories!!! Those days at BAHS, and those days in general were great!! It's great to think back to then. BERLIN was such a great place to spend those years, at such a formative time in one's life, to have lived in a place in which such great history was taking place. Even if I was there for only a year, it's good to think of the good times that were had. I will always consider myself lucky for having had the opportunities that were afforded by being in that city at that time. (really)
It was my second time to have lived in Germany, the other being 10 years before. I hope that I have the chance to visit again some time.
To all of those who attended then, especially those who were in the freshman class then, may the road always rise to greet you, and may the wind always be at your back!

I'm going to the reunion this year in BERLIN. It will be the first time I've been back and I'm bracing myself for all the changes.

Comments: I was in BERLIN from 1977-1983, two of my sons Brian and Kenneth Jr (Wayne) attended TAR. I was an Air Traffic Controller at Tempelhof. General Suddeth asked that I help coach the BAHS Football team in 1981 and 1982, I coached the Defense, we had a great deal of fun those two years. Comments: Wow. My sister (Liane Murphy) told me about this site. Talk about bringing back some memories. I was at BAHS from 87-91. Great to look back at some of the old photos as I don't remember what the hell happened to my yearbooks over the years. I think the last person I ran into from BERLIN is Steve Birkner when he was in basic training in San Antonio, TX. I too joined the Air Force, but quickly realized that the military lifestyle was not for me. It did bring me to England though, where I met my wife and am now happily settled. Something told me to get up from the couch and google West BERLIN American High and voila there all you guys are. I had found out about the Association from Bob Saba at Mike Funk's service last year.
Thanks for all the hard work and effort.
After leaving BERLIN in 66 I came to Miami to learn to fly then went to 'Nam in 68. Two hours in country and on a bus when this solder sits down in front of me, it was Bob Watkins, who lived across the street in BERLIN and graduated in 65.
In 71 I left the Army and went to Africa to fly till 73 then came back to Miami where I have lived ever since.
I left the flying game in 84 and started my own aviation business in 87. I have a daughter 24 who is in college and a son 22 who is finding his way.

I loved living in BERLIN and always hoped that the school would reopen. That last year the classes were so small that when the teams took off for sports there wouldn't be any students left in the class! Comments: Although my high school years are the least favorite part of my life, I can't help but be fascinated (and yes, feel nostalgic) by my periodic visits to this website. I was able to visit BERLIN in '98 and was allowed to come into the old school and take pictures. It was oddly surreal to sit in the seat I used to have in Mrs. White's 3rd floor math class, sit in the gym bleachers and imagine countless pep rallies, and stand at my customary lunch table in the cafeteria. It's been 25 years since I graduated and I remember so many things and people so clearly. Even though I was a complete wallflower in school and barely spoke to anyone outside of a very small circle of friends, I would be glad to hear from anyone from 75-80 who might possibly remember me, the years I attended. I can't make it to the reunion, but maybe someday I will. There's something sentimental about it even though I really didn't like high school that much....

Jon Burhans just told me about the reunion and this site. The reunion this summer is a big temptation. Since leaving 30 years ago, besides Jon I have seen Bob Anderson, the Brothertons, Steve Folding, Nina Rummans, Mike Hannah and Hayden Johnson. Haven't seen any of them in more than 20 years, except for Nina, whom I saw on a trip to DC about 6 years ago. Interesting site! Thanks for your work.
